AHPA membership is diverse, representing a broad spectrum of health care interests.  Among the membership are consumers, payers, providers, state and local public health officials, community health planners in government and the private sector, educators and health planning students. AHPA works to educate health policy makers and the public. We affirm that comprehensive community-based health planning helps assure access to needed health care.

AHPA serves as a forum and as a vehicle for its members to:

• Exchange information on the rapid changes taking place in federal, state and local health programs and policies
• Enhance health planning and policy development skills
• Learn from the experiences of others involved in health planning and policy development throughout the country and
• Develop coalitions to improve the planning and delivery of health services at the local level.
• Establish cooperative networks of similarly motivated health planners and practictitioners nationwide.
